The Quesnel area is no stranger to snow. On average, between January and the end of March, we’ll see 85 cm of the white stuff come down. Beyond nasty weather, the Cariboo Highway (Route 97) is known as being one of the most dangerous in the province. This all means you need to have a vehicle that’s safe and capable of getting you out of a sticky situation.

For families and people who need both space and rugged 4x4 or AWD capabilities, you’re going to want a reliable and affordable SUV. We have a selection of pre-owned SUVs that are perfect for life in the Quesnel area.

Here are a few options to consider when you’re hunting for a capable SUV:

Toyota Highlander

Toyota Highlander

The 2016 Toyota Highlander is a great option for growing families, giving you plenty of space for the kids along with all the room you need in the cargo area for sporting equipment, groceries, etc. If you need more space for your mountain bikes or other gear, fold the back seats down and you’re all set to bring everything you need for a weekend of camping.

Of course, an SUV like the Highlander comes with AWD in case you’re ever stuck in the snow or planning on taking the path-less-travelled to the cottage. And for those looking to cut their fuel bill and their carbon footprint, the 2016 Toyota Highlander is available as a hybrid model that we try to keep in stock, but that’s difficult considering how impressive the hybrid version is.

“Comfortable and pleasing to drive, the 2016 Toyota Highlander is a no-brainer pick for three-row family crossover. It also earns our top rating.” - Edmunds.com

Ford Explorer

Ford Explorer

A used Ford Explorer that’s been well taken care of can be a great decision for anyone in need of a full-size SUV. A 2015 or 2016 model year Explorer gives you a big, stylish SUV that’s more than capable of taking on ice, snow, mud, rocks, and everything else that comes with driving on Northern BC’s roads.

You can get a used explorer with a tonne of features including navigation, panoramic sunroof, and leather seats for well under $35,000. Compare that to a brand new 2018 model and you’re saving thousands.

“The 2015 Ford Explorer has a historic name, but it's a much more comfortable, road-worthy vehicle than it ever was in the past.” - The Car Connection

Toyota 4Runner

Toyota 4Runner

The Toyota 4Runner is one of the last SUVs still built “body on frame”, which means it’s incredibly rugged and durable. Finding a used 4Runner isn’t always easy, but that’s simply because they are so darn capable and reliable. We’re also looking for high-quality used 4Runners for our inventory and sometimes are lucky enough to have a few in-stock.

While many people look for used vehicles that are from recent  2014-2017 model years, if you’re able to find an even older Toyota 4Runner you may be able to get a great deal on a capable SUV. As an example, at the time this blog was published we had a fully loaded 2009 Toyota 4Runner for less than $20,000.

“With its upright profile and prominently flared wheel wells bearing off-road styling cues, the Toyota 4Runner holds up well.” - The Car Connection
